A Close-Up Look @ Fluid Flow-2.1

• Fluids: are substances that flow
• For example water from the tap when you wash your hands, you see a stream of water flow
• Flow Rate: the speed that a fluid moves in a given amount of time
• Dynamic: relating to systems involving moving fluids
• Aerodynamics: concerns  of the flow of air around solid objects or the effect of air on objects moving through it
• Hydrodynamics: the motion of liquids, usually water around solid objects
• Solids That Seem To Flow
• A fine powder consisting of a very large number of tiny solid pieces (e.g. sand) can be poured from one container to another (flows)
• Only solids can be piled in a heap. Liquids take the shape of their container and gases expand to fill whatever container they are in (form of particle theory)
• Explaining Flow Using The Particle Theory
• Particle Theory: a theory used to explain matter and heat transfer, which suggested that all matter is made up of tiny particles to small to be seen. These particles are constantly in motion because they have energy. The more energy they have the faster they move
• Particle Theory states that:
1. All matter is composed of cells
2. Particles are in constant motion
3. There are forces of attraction among particles
Did you knwo all this crud about science! i sure didn't! who cares about how water is created!
